Monday saw the ending of the second starting flight of Season XVI WPT Borgata Poker Open $3,500 Championship, with Guy Smith emerging as chip leader of the pack, with a chip stack estimated to 210,800.
Day 1B of the WPT Borgata Poker Open $3,500 Championship gathered an overall players field of 682 entries, of whom it was Smith who managed to get the biggest chip stack at the end of the day. Still, he did not even get near the stack of 327,300 in chips that the chip leader of the first starting flight Trung Pham bagged.
WPT Borgata Poker Open Championship
The 3,500 buy-in WPT Borgata Poker Open Championship kicked off on September 17th as part of Season XVI of the World Poker Tour Borgata Poker Open. The tournament features a guaranteed prize pool of $3 million, like the WPT Borgata Poker Open Championship in 2016. Last year, the prize was eventually boosted to $3,77 million after the event gathered at total of 1,179 entries, with a massive $821,811 first-place prize being granted to the event’s winner Jesse Sylvia.
The tournament is to be hosted from September 17th to 22nd at Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa. This year, it gathered a massive overall players field of 965 entrants.
Day 2 of the event is scheduled to start today. Registration will remain open over the first two levels of play, which is to allow more players join the field.
Guy Smith and Other Notable Players
As mentioned above, Guy Smith managed to emerge as chip leader of the second starting flight of the tournament, after coming out of the final break of Day 1B with one of the largest stacks at the time and succeeded to keep a steady pace until he finished on top.
At the time when the unofficial leaderboard for the end of Day 1B was set, it was Guy Smith who had the biggest chip stack of 210,800,followed by George Cicak with 177,600 in chips. Jae Hwang was third, holding a total of 176,200 in chips, and Carmine Tirone had a chip stack of 171,000. The fifth position was occupied by Benjamin Morgan, who bagged 163,000.
Smith, an American poker player, currently has total live winnings estimated to $201,812, with his largest live cash of $50,149 being generated at the time he took down the Summer Kickoff, Mashantucket $1,100 NLHE Championship at the beginning of July 2016.
Smith, who is a frequent participant in live poker events being held at Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa in Atlantic City, is to proceed to Day 2 along with other popular poker pros, such as Jim McLaughlin, a ClubWPT.com qualifier, Jae Hwang, Carmine Tirone and George Cicak. Another qualifier to the ClubWPT – Jonathan Burnham – however, did not managed to get to Day 2 of the WPT Borgata Poker Open Championship since he was eliminated by Matthew Burnitz.
